The University of Eastern Finland, UEF, is one of the largest multidisciplinary universities in Finland. We offer education in nearly one hundred major subjects, and are home to approximately 15,500 students and 2,700 members of staff. We operate in Joensuu and Kuopio. In international rankings, we are ranked among the leading universities in the world.

The Faculty of Science and Forestry operates on the Kuopio and Joensuu campuses of the University of Eastern Finland. The mission of the faculty is to carry out internationally recognised scientific research and to offer research-education in the fields of natural sciences and forest sciences. The faculty invests in all of the strategic research areas of the university. The faculty’s environments for research and learning are international, modern and multidisciplinary. The faculty has approximately 4,400 Bachelor’s and Master’s degree students and some 460 postgraduate students. We are looking for Postdoctoral researcher/Project researcher to join our research project Drying trend in boreal peatlands - impacts and mechanisms (BorPeat) lead by professor Eeva-Stiina Tuittila and funded by Academy of Finland.

Project aims to assess if the recently found drying trend in boreal peatlands is a widespread phenomenon and also detectable in the greenhouse gas  (GHG) dynamics, and to identify underlying mechanisms behind the ongoing change. We use a long-term experimental site in Finland, and a suite of EC sites in Finland, Sweden, and Canada with the longest records of pristine boreal peatland GHG fluxes. The successful candidates will be supported by international research team from Finland, Sweden, France, Canada, and US with strong expertise regarding plant and ecosystem ecology, biogeochemistry, micrometeorology and modelling of biological processes.

Postdoctoral researcher/project researcher will focus on vegetation and plant traits change in the long-term experimental drainage site in Finland and in a suite of EC sites in Finland, Sweden, and Canada. The work will consist of analyzing existing data as well as collecting new data. In addition to vegetation inventory, plant trait measurements, data analysis and scientific writing, work also includes participation on master student supervision.

A person to be appointed as a postdoctoral researcher/project researcher is required to have completed doctoral degree in relevant field.
