Petroleum Data Assistant for ArcGIS Desktop Released

Exprodat, the petroleum GIS services, software and training specialist has released Data Assistant, the latest addition to its Team-GIS suite of oil and gas software.

In any situation it is vital that all data is easily available and simple to use to ensure that the best possible decisions are made. This is especially true in oil and gas exploration, where the capital expenditure involved can be enormous.

Team-GIS Data Assistant provides exploration and production professionals with the tools they need to transfer data between commonly used oil and gas data formats and ArcGIS. Supported input formats include; Petrel, KINGDOM, SeisWorks, OpenWorks, Geographix, CPS3, IESX and UKOOA P1/90.

Once all of this data is transferred to the Esri environment, users are able to employ the powerful visualisation and spatial analysis capabilities that ArcGIS provides. Further, data can then be extracted from ArcGIS for further interpretation in dedicated sub-surface systems.

Exprodat’s Technical Director, Chris Jepps, explained more about the benefits of using the software; “Moving data from common E&P interpretation systems and ArcGIS has always proved a challenge. Team-GIS Data Assistant provides a pragmatic solution to this and has been designed with both the geoscientist and “GIS tech” in mind.

A simple wizard interface provides the geoscientist with an easy way to move data into ArcGIS in support of their workflows, while the more “GIS-centric” ArcToolbox and Python interfaces provide the geospatial specialist with powerful pre-, post- and batch processing capabilities. The first Data Assistant release focusses on integration between KINGDOM, Petrel, Landmark and ArcGIS, and we’ll be extending the tools with additional formats and data tools in future releases.”

Exprodat’s Team-GIS product suite is made up of a number of extensions to Esri’s ArcGIS Desktop that provide out-of-the-box functionality designed specifically for the needs of the petroleum sector.
