Seminar on enabling Oracle Spatial

Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei, 7 November 2006 : A seminar on `Enabling Oracle Spatial for Brunei Darussalam' was held on November 7 at the Mutiara Ballroom of the Sheraton Utama Hotel. At the opening the Surveyor General and President of Brunei Institution of Geomatics, Hj Mohd Jamil bin Hj Mohd Ali said moving the GIS data from proprietary databases to the Oracle database will enable users to deploy applications using single business architecture while enabling GIS applications to take advantage of the security, scalability and resilience of the database.

Ms Eve Kleimann, Senior Solution Specialist focusing on Oracle Spatial Technology Product Development for Asia Pacific based in Melbourne, Australia and Ms Rakhisah Mat Zin, Senior Sales Consulting Manager for Oracle Corporation Malaysia Sdn Bhd, made their respective presentations at the event.

The two speakers highlighted the ability of the Oracle Spatial product in enabling the convergence of geospatial technology with mainstream IT platforms in driving enormous advances in the ability to deploy spatial information across the enterprise and the Web.

The integration of geospatial technologies into mainstream helps to better articulate the value of geospatial information into Brunei e-Government, e-businesses and e-strategy. Benefits of this spatial awareness are significant and the cost of delivering spatial information is decreasing as users realise the significant cost-saving in deploying a new class of enterprise geospatial applications and web services.

The event at the Sheraton Utama Hotel also highlighted on the Oracle product in providing enterprise applications at a much lower cost than similar established geospatial vendors and the Oracle Spatial as the leader in the spatial market with a lower risk.
