PhD Position on N2O Fluxes at University of Göttingen (Germany)

PhD Position description:

At the University of Göttingen -Public Law Foundation-, DNPW – Division Agronomy, there is a position as:

PhD position (all genders welcome)

to be filled.

The salary is in accordance with the German public service salary scale (Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L /65%).The position is part of the DFG-funded project “INFLUX: Improved process understanding and quantification of Nitrous oxide FLUXes in a German crop rotation” where we aim at quantifying nitrous oxide (N2O) fluxes simultaneously using eddy covariance and chamber techniques and to understand the mechanisms responsible of the fluxes combining soil analysis, metagenomic studies and isotopic techniques.Your duties:

  • Maintenance of instrumentation for eddy covariance measurements of N2O and calculations of fluxes
  • Measurement of N2O fluxes using manual chambers
  • Comparison of N2O fluxes from eddy covariance and chambers; analysis of spatial and temporal variability of the fluxes
  • Collection of soil samples, soil analysis in the lab
  • Metagenomic studies and isotopic signatures of N2O to understand the microbial communities responsible of N2O fluxes
  • Writing papers and participation in scientific conferences.

Your profile:

We seek someone with a Masters on Agronomy, Soil Sciences, Environmental Sciences or related discipline, with experience on doing field or lab work. Previous experience in flux measurements will be considered an asset. The candidate should have good oral and written English language skills, some knowledge in statistical methods and of some programming languages (e.g. R).This post is designed to serve in fostering young researchers and scientists and give the successful applicant the opportunity to pursue a doctoral degree.
