Postdoc Position at the University of Arkansas

The University of Arkansas opens a postdoc position to synthesize and model CH4 flux datasets from rice agriculture sites, funded by the NASA Carbon Monitoring Program.

The Post Doctoral Fellow’s job duties will contribute to a funded research project by synthesizing and modeling CH4 flux datasets from a large number of eddy covariance measurement stations, focusing on production-scale rice agriculture. Field visits may be conducted in irrigated and non-irrigated agricultural fields in Arkansas and other states. The project will investigate the impacts of land cover and management practices on the surface energy balance, biophysical properties, carbon uptake, and greenhouse gas emissions. The Post Doctoral fellow will interface with scientists from a number of institutions and disciplines. The ultimate aim is to advance scientific understanding by modeling CH4 fluxes using remote sensing and other geospatial inputs and validate them at the field scale with the eddy covariance inputs.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

·         Ph.D. in disciplines such as biological, biosystems, ecological or environmental engineering, ecology, environmental science, geography, geosciences, or a closely related field

·         Demonstrated experience (research presentations, thesis, or publications) with high frequency micrometeorological datasets, remote sensing of landscape processes, or modeling of biogeochemical processes

·         Computer skills with python, R, Matlab, or a related language

Preferred Qualifications:

·         Good scientific communication skills as evidenced by publications and/or presentations at conferences

·         Willingness to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment

·         Demonstrated experience with environmental data management
