Drawings feature supports map attribute information, such as those imported from geographic information system (GIS) map data, which can be referenced by the software intelligent text labelling system.

Ortelius offers the ability to create your own styles and symbols, trace and draw over scanned maps and images, import GIS data from shapefiles and make maps from included templates.

For a limited introductory time Ortelius costs $79, around £48.

Ortelius requires Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard) or later, and an Intel processor.

A trail 31-day fully functional version comes with a watermark that can be removed with a valid license file.

Mapdiva adds that the versatile Ortelius can be used for design beyond map design and presentation.
