GIS Day Canada on November 19, 2008

On November 19th, thousands of people around the world will celebrate the 10th annual GIS Day. GIS Day is an international grassroots event that promotes geographic literacy in schools, communities and organizations. GIS users will open their doors to students, co-workers, and the general public to showcase real-world applications at events happening across Canada ( www.esricanada.com/gisday). Games, open houses, lectures and a host of other activities will help engage people and create awareness about the important role geography plays in the decisions and actions of our governments, corporations and citizens around the world.

Held each year on the Wednesday of National Geographic Society’s Geography Awareness Week, GIS Day is a global event that celebrates the technology and extends awareness of its important contributions in science, information and the humanities. GIS Day provides an international forum for users of GIS technology to demonstrate real-world applications that are making a difference in our society. The event is a reflection of the enthusiasm and commitment of individual GIS users everywhere. A number of Canadian government organizations, businesses, colleges and universities are taking part in this year’s GIS Day. Mark your calendar and attend an event in your area.
