Bahrain, first Middle Eastern State to own digital video maps

Bahrain made history becoming the first Middle Eastern State to own digital video maps.

The new virtual geographic maps are the brainchild of the General Informatics Organisation.

"Decision-makers would be spared site visits as they would be provided with photorealistics 3D graphics," GPS director Khalid Abdulrahman Al Hidan said.

"The outstanding achievement, which crowns eight months of unrelenting efforts, is expected to benefit most ministries."

The digital maps would help the Municipalities and Agriculture Ministry keep vigil on buildings and detect violations.

They would also help the Works Ministry bring images of roads complete with landmarks and take accurate decisions.

"The maps are in line with Economic Development Board strategies for 2008-2014 for ministries to gain edge," Mr Al Hidan said.

The new technology would make it easier for inspectors to uncover every single construction violations across the kingdom.
