The Iranian Space Agency says the country has ranked first in the Middle East for advancements in astronomy and space activities.
“Remote sensing is the main ISA project in which researchers benefit from satellite images in agricultural development, environmental protection and the prediction of drought, earthquakes and floods,” said ISA head Ahmad Talebzadeh.
He said that the ISA plans to replace ground networks used in transferring data with satellite ones.
Talebzadeh added that Iranian experts are currently developing satellites which will be used in the 'remote sensing' project.
He concluded that Iran aims to improve its astronomical prowess in order to improve its international ranking in space technology.
