ESRI Remote Sensing and GIS Summit

National mapping agencies, state and local government, university educators, and defense contractors are among the groups that will attend the 2008 ESRI Remote Sensing and GIS Summit being held August 3 and hosted in conjunction with the 2008 ESRI International User Conference (ESRI UC) at the San Diego Convention Center in California. The summit will cover the exponential growth in the availability of remotely sensed imagery and how to effectively collect, manage, produce, and exploit the data.

Speakers from the international community of geographic information system (GIS) data users will address the attendees. David Zilkoski, director of the National Geodetic Survey of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), will explore the importance of remotely sensed data as well as managing the country’s National Spatial Reference System. In addition, Dr. Devendra Pandey from the Forest Survey of India will discuss the impact of remote sensing and GIS in managing India’s forests, including how the technology has been used to mitigate encroachment conflicts.

ESRI chief scientist Dr. David Maguire will welcome attendees and discuss ESRI’s vision for managing rapidly expanding catalogs of imagery and other raster data easily and efficiently with the ArcGIS family of products.
