Duties And Responsibilities
Reporting to the Director of Planning Resources, this position is responsible for leading a team to maintain the University''s geographic information system (GIS) and to provide related products to support planning and management activities of Harvard University. Position will establish a vision for the further development of the GIS in collaboration with staff and University clients, and will lead development activities. Assist or lead compilation, maintenance, and analysis of data from studies, surveys, demographics, field work, and other sources, utilizing database, GIS, and/or statistical software. Produce narratives, maps, charts, graphics, and tables of data findings. Provide both routine and special analyses and mapping services as required for projects, and/or provide related project management services. This position develops and implements data standards, policies, and guidelines for management of the GIS. This position supervises two full time GIS professionals; responsibilities include goal setting and performance management.

Required Education, Experience and Skills
Basic qualifications; Position requires at least BS/BA with a concentration in planning, geography, engineering, or related field, with a minimum 6 years GIS experience. Significant experience applying GIS, database design, and GIS management using ArcMap 9.2 and AutoCAD. Experience managing technical staff and projects. Must be proficient with the MS Office suite of applications. Demonstrated ability to work and to lead in a team-oriented and collaborative environment are required. Additional qualifications; Familiarity with SDE, ArcIMS, NavisWorks, and web-based applications, helpful. Experience implementing and managing utility infrastructure in a GIS strongly desired. Experience with real estate, planning, construction, and/or municipal work are helpful. Strong written and oral communication skills, commitment to customer service, problem solving and analytical skill.
