Cities Revealed Event 2008 hailed as “beyond exceptional”

The GeoInformation Group, publishers of Cities Revealed aerial photography ( www.citiesrevealed.com), are pleased to announce it’s training division, Training4GIS recently hosted its most successful user event to date. Over the last eight years the Cities Revealed Event has fostered a user community of those who wish to enhance their understanding of the key concepts and applications of spatial information.

The 2008 event drew its largest audience; with over one hundred attendees this year's event was a resounding success. The two-day residential event offers a mixture of workshops, field trips and presentations from users and industry experts, with a few games and social activities thrown in for good measure. This year’s speakers included Mary Spence, MBE, President of the British Cartographic Society, Dr Geoff Smith of the Centre of Ecology and Hydrology, David Smith from Exmoor National Park and Ed Wyre from Unit Landscape Modelling, Cambridge University.

There is stable core of loyal users who return to the Cities Revealed event year on year; this year the event saw its largest number of new faces, with around sixty new delegates. Stephen Holt from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council was presented with a special award for his continuing loyalty to the event, having attended every Cities Revealed Event since 2000. Feedback has been extremely positive, with 90% of delegates valuing the event as Above Average or Exceptional and 90% of delegates rating the event at Above Average or Exceptional for adding to their existing knowledge.

Below is a selection of the many positive comments received:

"In the words of John Motson - 'This just gets better and better and better!'" - Stephen Holt, Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council.

"Beyond exceptional!" - Mark Percival, Coventry City Council.

"An enjoyable first time experience, would like to attend again and will recommend to others within the council." - Delgado Mayhew, Haringey Council.

"I thought it was very well organised and I learnt a lot within the presentations and workshops. The staff did a fantastic job throughout the whole event!" - Dawn Thornton, Defence Geographic Centre.

The Cities Revealed Event has garnered a reputation for providing stimulating and informative content combined with a sense of fun and an excellent learning opportunity. Team building and icebreaker sessions have helped to create a congenial atmosphere. Over the years delegates have been challenged to model the world using play-doh, suspend tennis balls using only recyclable materials and solve aerial imagery jigsaw puzzles.

Training4GIS are exploring possible dates for the next Cities Revealed Event in early 2009, and will confirm this on its website www.training4gis.com in the very near future.
