Geoimage wins Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Reseller of the Year Award

RESTEC (Japan) announces that Geoimage Pty Ltd has won a 2007 ALOS Reseller of the Year Award. The awards are presented to the top performing resellers around the globe to honour their commitment and dedication to the promotion and utilisation of ALOS Data.

The Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) was developed by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) and successfully launched on January 24, 2006. The mission objectives of ALOS include cartography, regional observation and disaster monitoring. The satellite has three sensors - two optical imagers (PRISM & AVNIR-2) and an L-band Synthetic Aperture (PALSAR).

ALOS has been a popular imagery choice for mining, agriculture and environment sectors, however the production of Digital Elevation Models (DEMs) has generated the largest interest among Geoimage customers.

The PRISM sensor can acquire stereo panchromatic data in triplet mode which aids in the manufacture of DEMs whilst the AVNIR-2 sensor acquires multispectral data.

Bob Walker, CEO of Geoimage, says "The beauty of ALOS is that it supports our production of DEMs for broad area coverage at a very competitive price. We are seeing an emerging trend where our clients are now requesting both an ALOS DEM and high resolution imagery of their sites."
