About Us
Educationgis.com is managed by Valeriy Kovalskyy and Eric Salas.

Dr. Valeriy Kovalskyy received his Bachelors in Geography from Lviv National University in Ukraine. He worked on several state funded projects related to National Park zoning - Carpathian NP and NP Yavorivskyy parks - and took part in developing GIS and databases for both of those parks. He participated in TACIS funded project in Romania; developing new environment friendly use for Maramuresh Forest Region in Carpathian Mountains. He finished his MSc degree in Environmental Sciences from Ohio University in August 2004 with thesis on "land use optimization for newly acquired areas of Wayne National Forest in Ohio".

During his 2 year postgraduate education, he worked for the Institute for Local Government Administration and Rural Development as a project assistant for PMDATA project, where he and his colleagues built a database and a web portal for researchers in 4 states - Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky, Pennsylvania and developed WEB-GIS gateway to the database.

His PhD dissertation focused on the "Development and validation of the Event Driven Phenology Model", which he successfully defended at the Geospatial Science Center of Excellence (GSCE), South Dakota State University (SDSU).

Dr. Eric Ariel Salas received his Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from the University of San Carlos - Technological Center in Cebu Philippines and his Masters degree in Geo-Information from Wageningen University and Research (WUR), The Netherlands. His previous research was on the study of heavy metal contamination using vegetation red-edge index in spectroscopic data.

He served as an Assistant Professor at the Civil Engineering Department in USC-TC, teaching Mathematics, Geotechnics, Surveying, Planning and Transportation subjects, including GIS and Remote Sensing. He had a short stint in Law school and needed only a final dissertation defense to earn his degree in Doctor of Public Administration in Cebu.

His PhD dissertation focused on the "Evaluation and Application of a New Shape-Sensitive Metric Useful for Characterizing Both Spectral Curves and LiDAR Waveforms", which he successfully defended at the Geospatial Science Center of Excellence (GSCE), South Dakota State University (SDSU).
